February 2012 - Happy Valentines Day!

Branch meets ea. month, 11:00, at Lalo's restaurant, Mount Shasta...3rd Wed of the month

Big SIR Corner  Francis Vorbeck

Our President at Head Quarters sent emails wanting to know what our agenda is for 2012.  How to increase our membership is a constant concern of theirs.

Our goal should be:

1. To increase our membership, this is a call to everyone

2. To involve more of our members to take on one of our activities.

The activity thus far that has taken off is Golf and in a smaller degree fishing and bowling.  As you all know the golfers play every Tuesday on a different course each week.  Our members enjoy the outdoors, the exercise, the beautiful course and fun.  For those who are not participating in any activity, come out and join us.  It is unimportant how well you play, fish or bowl.  Let’s have fun!

Our bowling group is in need of more members. I am certain there are more than just 4 of our group who bowl. Please contact the Chairman Joe Smith. He will be happy to hear from you.

Our Roster indicates there are over 30 members who did not state what their hobbies were.

There are 15 plus members who garden as a hobby.  What about a garden group as an activity?  It would be fun to learn from one another, I know some of you are accomplished gardeners. Would it be possible to get together before planting season?

Hiking is another favorite that could be combined with cycling. We would need two volunteers to organize a garden and the other hiking/cycling groups. Give me a call if you are up to the challenge!

On our up coming luncheon, Wednesday 15th, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Invite your wives and retired friends to join us.  Lets all enjoy Lalo’s tasty buffet.

See you in two weeks!

So long and Aufwiedersehn

  Little SIR Message  Charles Corrales

It was good to see a pretty good attendance to the sirs January luncheon in spite of all the snow and wind.  Our "new government" big sir Francis handled his first luncheon rather admirably and I'm sure he'll hone his skills in the months to come.

Guest speaker Cael Weston from Acme Computer  presentation was very informative.  February's valentine luncheon guest speaker will be Marie Wells from the Mt. Shasta chamber.  She has been there since taking over from Bonnie Kubowitz.  She is looking forward to speaking to the sirs and their wives about the chamber's activities and will be happy to answer any of your questions.
See you there at the Valentine luncheon (wives and meaningful others invited) at Lalo's February 15th, 11:00AM.

It’s time to get to know our new Little Sir better

Charles Corrales was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in Jan. 1944.  When he was 4 years old, the family moved to the "big island" of Hawaii.  Where, Charles grew up in the sugar plantation community of Halaula in the district of North Kohala.

Upon graduation high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served 4 years as a "radioman". (Charles is a little bashful here, we don’t know if he was an airborne, ship, or landside radioman)

After being discharged from the Navy, he got a job in the Los Angeles area as an installer of switching systems for Western Electric, and later for AT&T and later for Lucent Technologies. He retired from Lucent Technologies with a combined service of all three companies totaling 34 years.

After retiring in Feb of 2001, he sold my house in the LA area and moved to Mt. Shasta in May of 2001, “best move to date in my life, because of the following”.  He married his wife Cindy in August, 2002, (“an even better move”).

Hobbies include golf, gardening, hiking, road cycling and watching all manner of sports on TV and in person.

  January speaker

Thanks to Cael Weston of Acme Computers for a most informative and interesting presentation.

Attendance Award
Jim Mathews

The January Attendance award of $20 was won by Bob Jones who was not present. So the February award will be $40.

Roger’s corner

This continuing Newsletter section is dedicated to our departed friend – Roger Cotton.  For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing Roger, he was a passionate rascal – very much devoted to the SIR organization.  He was a golfer, always came to the meetings at Lalos, always contributed to club funds by eating a delicious meal, AND ALWAYS HAD TO TELL A JOKE OR TWO!!!   JJ

  Subject:

An old man goes to the doctor for his yearly physical, his wife tagging along. When the doctor enters the examination room, he tells the old man, "I need a urine sample, a stool sample and a sperm sample."

The old man, being hard of hearing, looks at his wife and yells: "WHAT?"

"What did he say? What's he want?"

His wife yells back, "He needs your underwear."

All Out of Anesthetic

A dentist ran out of anesthetic just before the last extraction for the day was scheduled.

He gave the nurse a very large needle, instructing her to jab it hard into the patient's butt when the signal was given, so it would take his attention away from the tooth extraction.

It all happened in an instant.

The nurse, patient, and pliers were in place. The signal was given, and the nurse bayoneted the patient with the needle just as the dentist yanked the tooth.

Afterwards, the dentist asked, "Hurt much?"

The patient hesitated, "Didn't hardly feel it come out. And, man, those roots were really deep!"

Lethal Food

A dietician was once addressing a large audience in Chicago.

"The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago.

Red meat is awful. Vegetables can be disastrous, and none of us realises the germs in our drinking water.

But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all eat it. Can anyone here tell me what lethal product I'm referring to?"

"You, sir, in the first row, please give us your idea."

Bad News

A secretary walked into her boss's office & said, "I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you."

"Why do you always have to give me bad news?" he complained.

"Tell me some good news for once."

"Alright, here's some good news," said the secretary.

"You're not sterile."

Psychiatric Hotline

Recording - "Hello, Welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline."

If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.

If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2.

If you have multiple personalities, please press 3, 4, 5 and 6.
